Simon Mallett

Simon brings a passion for arts management and artistic and organizational innovation to his work as Executive Director of the Rozsa Foundation. A professional theatre director by trade, Simon founded Downstage, a theatre company that is dedicated to creating conversation around social issues, and served as the company’s Artistic Director for thirteen years. While working in that role, Downstage was frequently recognized for its cutting-edge work, including being named to Alberta Venture’s list of the province’s most innovative organizations. Simon’s knowledge and experience in arts management is widespread, including sitting on non-profit boards, working with advocacy organizations and serving on arts juries.

​Simon earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph and a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary. He received the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta’s Emerging Artist Award in 2008, was named to Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2011 and has won and been nominated for a number of professional theatre awards, including winning the Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Direction in 2014.
