Mick has 40 years of public and non-profit sector experience in both the United Kingdom and Canada. His diversified background includes working for government, charities, foundations and non-charitable non-profit organizations.
Mick’s career spans the arts, post-secondary education, neighbourhood community organization, social housing and human services. In the U.K. he worked as a community organizer in the Bristol and as the Executive Director of a large community centre in North London. Since immigrating to Calgary he has worked at Mount Royal University, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Alberta College of Art and Design and the Calgary Foundation.
During his long career, Mick has served in leadership positions on the boards of many organizations – locally, regionally and nationally. His professional areas of expertise are board development and revenue development strategies, including planned giving and major gift solicitation. Mick has assisted clients with strategic fund development plans, organizational analysis and implementation, strategic plans and capital campaign studies. Mick is currently fund and organization development consultant with the ViTrēo Group in Calgary.
Mick has an undergraduate degree in History, Politics and Sociology from Southampton University (U.K.), a graduate diploma in Social and Community Work from York University (U.K.) and an MA in Organizational Leadership from Royal Roads University (Victoria, BC).
Mick is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). He volunteers as an instructor with provincial government’s Board Development Program. His other volunteer activities include being a member of the Advisory Council for the Immigrant Access Fund Canada and as a steward at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary.
