Starting Saturday, November 6 and every other Saturday until December 4, we will host an online webinar featuring local experts in the non-profit community speaking to topics relevant to the non-profit sector in Calgary and area.

Follow Up Friday’s
Follow Up Friday’s is an opportunity after the Saturday webinar to ask the question, “What does it mean for me and my organization?” If you want to have an extended discussion on the topic, or explore the practicality of the topic, join us for the Follow Up Friday. Note: You don’t need to necessarily attend the Saturday webinar for the Follow Up Friday discussion, but it may support the discussions.

Please note you will need to register for individual events.

VOLUNTER (RE)ENGAGEMENT
Saturday, November 7, 2021 – 10:30 am to 12:00 pm

As we face many changes and challenges involving volunteers we also have a number of opportunities to work differently. For a variety of reasons, those who make up your volunteer community may have changed. As communities look to move forward, many people may feel apprehensive about returning to volunteer positions they had in the past. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as organizations can explore to engage a wide range of people and their individual situations in a way to support volunteering in your organizations. This may just require organizations to think of ways of adapting and developing volunteer roles for your organization.

This online session will explore early research on best practices around volunteer engagement during this time. This includes looking at volunteer management, recruitment, recognition and retention. We will also explore what could support volunteer motivation and identifying barriers to volunteering at this time. This session will also introduce some useful tools that can support your volunteer (re)engagement practices moving forward.

TRUTH & RECONCILIATION: IMPACTS OF INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA
Saturday, November 20, 2021 – 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

When organizations want to redress the legacy of residential schools and advance the process of Canadian reconciliation, board members play an important role in promoting and upholding a culture that honours this. Often times staff and especially racialized people within organizations are asked to lead the process of truth and reconciliation, but board members also play an important role in understanding reconciliation and moving it towards reconciliACTION. This begins with understanding the truths of the legacy of residential school and the impacts of intergenerational trauma.

This session will guide board members to consider how their board with their staff might together begin or continue a journey of truth and reconciliation. This session will touch on the current realities facing Indigenous communities and increase awareness on the need for specific, Indigenous cultural supports in service delivery. This workshop will explore the legacy that historical processes and policies continue to have on Indigenous People and provide suggested ways participants can heal together from these impacts.

JUST DO IT! COMPLIANCE FOR NON-PROFITS
Saturday, December 4, 2021 – 10:30 am to 12:00 pm

Non-profits and registered charities are incorporated under provincial and national acts. As incorporated organizations, there are certain structures like bylaws, remittances, reporting and taxation that the board must comply with to maintain incorporated status and to mitigate risk to the board. As dull as this subject sounds, it is important that you know your responsibilities as there can be financial consequences, including the deregistration of your organization and paying revocation tax, for failure to comply.

Join us for a “big picture” look at non-profit compliance. Participation in this learning event will help you to:
– Understand how bylaws are the key to governance,
– Learn about the different forms of regulatory compliances required of non-profits and charities,
– Understand the consequences of failing to comply with requirements; and,
– Familiarize yourself with a tool to help track of your organization’s compliance obligations
